The gigantic marble statue was intended to be moved from Apollonas village to Yria, 3km outside the main town of Naxos and more than 16km away from the site it was initially found.

 

The 3 circle wholes and the following crack in its neck, as rumoured , was done on attempt to remove the head and separate it from the rest of the staute to take as a loot.
